With nothing snappy to say, I’ll simply announce Saturday, May19

At The Nick. Those of you that will be tough enough to stay the course and not scamper away to the Hangout Fest will be rewarded with the May installment of Rock U Live! Karaoke! Lucky bastards. We will be brandishing a hired gun for fill in duties on rhythm geetar. Mr. David Joiner of WolfCreek will be joining us. Come make him feel welcome and your singing friends feel awesome and blow off a little Rock and Roll steam this weekend. 10PM, The Nick. By the way, The Nick may just be smoke free by this weekend. No promises, but it will be happening in the very near future….all over Bham. Deep breaths…

And now…PRICELESS VIDEOS FROM OUR PAST!! Watch this video and relax…by now she must be nearly 50.

It is April. You knew that. Karaoke is on April 21. Now you know that…

We had a really good time on St. Patrick’s day despite the fact that everybody wore green and there were no pinchings…..or spankings. Boo. It was a late show and we left people behind on the list that we just couldn’t get to before we had to quit. Those of you that got left out come back for April and get to it a little earlier! We’ll be adding 4 new songs and they are sure to be hits, so come early and get signed up to present a vulgar display of your inner most rock fantasy! At this point we have seen a lot of inner most rock fantasies and to be honest, we just can’t get enough. Except the the kind that involve Wilson-Phillips. We’ve had enough of that. I actually saw them on TV the other day and it was bizarre. Carnie Wilson is fat again. I did learn that.

Anyhow, be sure to tell everyone you know that Rock U Live! Karaoke will be at The Nick on April 21. Sign up starts at 9:30, cover it $6. HERE ARE THE NEW SONGS FOR APRIL:

My Hero- Foo Fighters
Take it Off- The Donnas
Would- Alice In Chains
Seven Nation Army- The White Stripes

Practice up….

And now…..a priceless video from our past! Oh the dance moves. I wish I had a cat suit and a ton of yarn with which to make a cool cat shawl. Did you know that she married John McEnroe? True story…

Sound the alarm…St. Patty’s Day shenanigans in store…

Rock U Live! Karaoke is the OFFICIAL after party for St. Patty’s day in Birmingham! A vote was taken and Birmingham said that we would be the go-to event for green beer swilling rockers city wide. We were in the running to be the official St. Patrick’s day after party for Planet Earth, but The Nick barely has enough roof insurance to cover us as it is so we respectfully withdrew. What does this mean? Well, O’Shaughnasee, I’m glad you asked. Rock U Live! Karaoke will be grinding in to motion at the normal time, sign up starts at 9:30. Of course, we will be helping you rock socks just like any other show, but we may….hee hee,..have some extra trix up our sleeve. It is a holiday, after all.   We’ll post again as we get a little closer…we just couldn’t wait to spread the news.

How about a priceless video from our past!?

I DID NOT know that Garth Algar played with Great White until just now. I also didn’t realize how old those guys were even in the 80s. Seriously! “Grandpa, tell me about playing for Great White…” Of course, they were less flammable back then.

FRIDAY, FEB 3 SHOW CANCELLED!

Hello, fellow rocking people. We have had to pull the plug on our upcoming show this weekend, FEB 3 at The Nick. I’m sure that they will fill the void with a quality act or two so you should still go say hello to the fine folks at The Nick. We have been doing this without interruption for nearly 4 years and we hate to break the streak, but we just wouldn’t be able to deliver the high-purity rocking that is expected of us. And we don’t want to do things half-azzed. Rest assured, though, that we’ll work double time to make sure that the St. Patrick’s day show is better than ever. Look for us on March 17, right there at The Nick.  I feel the need to address a rumor:   This has nothing to do with Gleason actually trying to shoot an Icebreaker mint directly in to his bloodstream.  We talked him out of trying that weeks ago.   Please pass along the word to your own peoples: FRIDAY, FEB3 has been cancelled.

Please enjoy this video of exceptional nostalgia as consolation.  Personally, I think she should have stuck around to inherit the Unpainted Huffhines….er, Arizona furniture fortune.

Fabulous Friday Throwdown on FEB 3! Pass it on…

You read it right,  smooth moves.  Rock U Live! Karaoke is on Friday this month, and then a bit of a break for us as we prepare for our St. Patty’s day extravaganza.  More about that some other time because right now we need to focus on the fact that you should be at The Nick on FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3! Tell a friend or two and make sure that everybody is in the loop for heavy-duty rockage.  Wouldn’t it be a shame to miss the wild times that we had at the January show because some loser forgot to tell you about this special Friday event?  Speaking of the January show…things got crazy late in the night.  The good kind of crazy, not like that ex that used to stare at you while you peed.   A strong crowd helped its singers produce menacing rock for the ages and it all happened right there at The Nick like it always does.  Perhaps we can tap in to some more good crazy this weekend.  CHECK IT: FRIDAY, FEB 3. Sign up starts at 9:30, rocking till 3 or  4 a.m.  $6.

Now, please enjoy this installment of priceless videos from our past. What is Ted Nugent chewing on? No mere gum could withstand the Gonzo.

January 21. No holiday, no hats, no reason to live. Except to…

Rock! Of course the holidays will all be over and there is no joy in the air. No Santa, no Kwanzaaaaaa biscuits under the . . . Kwanzaaaaaaaa . . . cactus? Moving on. You should still find happiness in the fact that your dear friends at Rock U Live! are rolling out the Karaoke apparatus (that means “band”) to help steel the new year. Show this year who’s boss! That’s right, Rock and Roll Brethren and Sistras, grab a hold of 2012 and dip that motherf*cker in to a vat of red-hot, molten, sweltering, blistering, sock busting, bottom-smacking musical goodness. That is a really classy way of saying, “Come to The Nick and sing with our band.”

As per usual we will be opening up the table at about 9:30 PM and letting it rip until sometime very, very late. We are adding 4 new songs this month. Learn them:

Cherry bomb- The Runaways
Cold hard bitch- Jet
Mother mother- Tracey Bonham
Possum Kingdom – The Toadies

Summary: Saturday, Jan 21. 9:30PM. The Nick. $6. Until very late

And now, ladies and gentlemen, this is happpening:

Saturday, December 17…Santa Hat Karaoke. Wear a Santa Hat and get in our Family Christmas Photo

First, a word about the November show: Santa, please bring us a Derby Devil for Christmas.   You see, people, if you weren’t at The Nick for the Nov. 19 show you missed a team of swell roller derby gals (The Savannah Derby Devils) blowing off some steam after their season closer  versus our very own Tragic City Rollers.  We have all now developed a long-distance crush on these 4-wheeled sirens and , and now I want to invite the Tragic City Rollers to come and show us how hard THEY can rock.  There was one TCRoller that sang with us that night and it was a tantalizing glimpse in to what could be.  Sigh.  Moving on…

Wear your coolest Santa Hat on DECEMBER 17 for Rock U Live! Santa Hat Karaoke! Just in time to work out all of your Christmas family-shopping-wrapping-packing-Hallmark-sibling-sweater-fruitcake frustrations.  Come and show Santa what you’re capable of if you don’t get your way…you know, just like any proper rock star.  Wear your coolest Santa hat because we’re going to take a group portrait with all of our favorite singers (that means you) and keep it close to our hearts for the rest of the year (or even longer).  Rock U Live! Santa Hat Karaoke, Saturday Dec. 17, 9:30PM, $6. Still rocking long after bed time.

P.S. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your Santa hat.

November 19. It is on…

What can I say?  The Halloween show was very fun.  Saw some more great costumes.  What is it about karaoke and costumes?

November 19, 9:30 at The Nick.  You should be there.  College football is kind of winding down it seems, so demand more from your Saturday and come experiment with your Rock and Roll fantasy with Rock U Live! Karaoke.  It never, ever sucks.

$6, 9:30, The Nick, Rocking till at least 3AM.

Surprise Halloween Show on…..well, Halloween! 9:30PM, NO COVER!

We had a pretty darn good time at our Scareaoke show last weekend.  A very, very special thanks to Carl Ray Hopper for pinch hitting for Josh on the bass.  You, sir, provide a very powerful bottom end.  And we dig that.  The rest of you all were very fun and very generous with the food donations.  Thank you for both.  Some of you were druuuuuuuunk.

In the chute now is a surprise Halloween show.  The fine folks at The Nick have asked us to help you provide the entertainment for a NO COVER HALLOWEEN PARTY.  Normally this would be a savings of $6, but we had originally raised the cover for a potential Halloween show to $35, so if you show up you’ll save $35!  How can you afford to miss that?  That’s right, Money Bags, you can’t!  9:30PM.   Put on that outfit one last time before Halloween is officially over and take the stage with the manly men of Rock U Live Karaoke…and the womanly woman, Heather, too.  We could not exist without her pushing our buttons.

So, don’t turn in to a pumpkin just yet!  Halloween Night @ The Nick.  NO COVER!!

On Saturday, October 22nd…Rock U Live Karaoke presents: The SCAREAOKE Food Drive & Costume Party

A Halloween costume party and a food drive!? Yes and yes! The rumors have blossomed into a full-blown affair, my friends! Saturday, October 22 at The Nick: Rock U Live Karaoke’s “Scareaoke Food Drive & Costume Party”.  Or Skaraoke.  However you want to spell it, dress up in your favorite Halloween outfit and bring as much canned food as you can fit in your Microbus because this beeotch is a full throttle dress up charity event!  Whether they like it or not we’re going to give as much non-perishable food as we can muster to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.  We will have costume contests and some sort of side-show entertainment for your viewing pleasure (acts TBA).   Tell your friends…then remind them…then drag them out.  Remind those stingy bastards that it is for charity!

Saturday, October 22, 9:30PM.  $6+ canned good(s).

I almost forgot…we’re also adding FIVE (5) NEW SONGS for October.  Recognize.

Garbage- I’m Only Happy When it Rains
Meredith Brooks- Bitch
Hole- Celebrity Skin
Fountains of Wayne- Stacy’s Mom
Lit- My Own Worst Enemy
